Family firm doubling in size to support local customers

An Aberdeen family firm has just doubled the size of its warehouse to encourage firms to buy racking and modular buildings locally.

Greenwell Equipment, which has signed up to the Buy North East campaign, has expanded its facilities in East Tullos to house its pallet racking and shelving stocks, and a two storey modular building showroom is also being erected.

The firm is conducting a review all of its suppliers to ensure they purchase locally wherever possible, as part of its commitment to supporting the local economy.  Greenwell, which supplies containers, cabins, modular buildings, office furniture, shelving and pallet racking, has a strong ethos towards working closely with suppliers, reducing its carbon footprint and minimising transportation costs by buying locally.

Set up by father and son Richy and Mark Greenwell, along with Mark’s sister Julie, the business began over 20 years ago selling used office furniture, and the commitment to helping Aberdonian businesses shop locally, reduce waste and contain costs continues twenty years later.

Richy said: “We have expanded our warehouse and showroom facilities to allow us to hold larger stocks of racking and modular buildings, in order to facilitate easier ordering, fast delivery and outstanding customer service. Our large racking stocks allow clients to order as and when they need – there is no six week delivery lead time or unreasonable minimum order values.  The new modular building showroom will demonstrate the quality of the cabins, offices and welfare facilities we can provide. Our experienced modular building staff will help clients design the configuration that meets their individual requirements.”

Greenwell Equipment also supplies office furniture and the firm has a showroom at its base on Greenbank Road. Richy added: “The last couple of years have been interesting as regards office furniture. Many firms have downsized and so don’t need as much furniture, and Greenwell has been happy to take unwanted desks, chairs and cabinets to recycle them. People are becoming more aware that you do not always need to buy new, there is a large amount of excellent quality used product available.

“The Buy North East campaign is in keeping with the whole ethos of Greenwell. We have analysed every purchase decision, and will continue to do so, to ensure that we buy as much as we can locally, and we are expanding our stocks to help our own customers buy locally as well.  From showcasing two storey modular buildings, to stocking hundreds of containers in different sizes at our Aberdeen yard, Greenwell is well placed to prove that buying locally is cost effective and efficient.

“From using local specialist tradespeople using local transport and sourcing building materials in Aberdeen, Greenwell buys locally as much as we possibly can. It’s not just about supporting the local economy, but about building a relationship with suppliers.”
